Same platform. Five quite different jobs.
A refurbisher is measured on cost per device. An ITAD provider is measured on whether the evidence holds up. Those are not the same product problem, even when they run the same software.
Refurbishers
Judged on: Cost per device, and grade accuracy
At volume, the two numbers that decide whether a month was good are what it cost to process a device and how often the grade was wrong. Both are operational problems before they are software problems.
- Automatic tests run in the background while the operator works the guided ones, so bench time is spent on what needs a human
- Operator audits mix staged tests into real work at a ratio you set per operator — a new hire is checked more often than a proven one
- Grading runs against your own scale, not a scale we imposed
- Flat or tiered licensing, so processing more devices does not mechanically cost more
ITAD
Judged on: Whether the evidence survives an audit
An ITAD business is a chain-of-custody business. The diagnostic result matters less than whether you can still prove, two years later, what was done to a specific serial number and under what method.
- Certified to ADISA assurance level 4 for Pro-Diagnostics and MacRestore, with certificates available for your audit file
- NIST 800-88 Clear or Purge recorded per drive, against that drive's serial number
- An erase that cannot be tied to a serial is refused outright rather than recorded weakly
- Sampled read-back verification, with the sampling limit stated rather than hidden
Buyback & trade-in
Judged on: Speed at intake, and disputes afterwards
Intake is a throughput problem with a reputational tail. A fast assessment that cannot be defended later just moves the cost from the counter to the dispute queue.
- Scan any of ten identifier types — IMEI, serial, MEID, Wi-Fi MAC, ICCID and more — and see the device's history immediately
- Batch a CSV of up to 30,000 identifiers against the same checks
- A public certification record the other party can verify themselves, without an account
- GSMA blacklist and greylist status with the full IMEI history behind it
Carriers & retail
Judged on: Consistency across sites you cannot personally watch
The difficulty is not any single site. It is that twenty sites drift apart, and you find out from a complaint rather than a report.
- Test suites defined centrally and applied per facility, program, team and shift
- Performance monitoring by day, team, shift, line and operator
- Seven operator languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Dutch
- Scheduled reports emailed on a cadence you set, with export retention
Insurance & claims
Judged on: Defensible device condition at a point in time
A claim turns on what condition a device was in and when. That is an evidence question, and it is answered badly by a photograph and a form.
- A full diagnostic record with per-test results, timestamped against the device identity
- Parts check comparing each component serial against the factory serial, flagging anything not OEM
- Verified erasure before redeployment, with the method recorded
- Everything exportable by API or CSV into your own claims system
None of these quite describe you?
Most operations are a mix. Tell us what your floor actually does and we will tell you plainly whether this fits.
